About
Continuously generated algorithmic music coded by one human.
Inspired by Dadaism, Pratītyasamutpāda, amplituhedron, cut-up and dub.
This exists, then that exists. Emergent. Enjoy!
The Infinite Album
is the result of a lifetime of questions; on music, the act of creation, artistic legacy, curated chaos, audible reality vs. an extrapolated unknown.
SMPLR is both the artist and the generative engine.
Livestream
SMPLR creates a continual & ephemeral flow of original, non-repeating music aka The Infinite Album
, in stark contrast to the simple, static generative algorithm at it's core.A multitude of outcomes can exist despite one set of rules. Experience the live stream below...

Abstract
The number of atoms in the observable universe is 1080 meanwhile the number of unique songs SMPLR will generate is 1084... Conceptual statement and technical abstract coming soon.
the SMPLR engine
The SMPLR engine feeds audio samples through two distinct FFmpeg passes: Song composition, effects & mastering; then stream assembly, video visualization, encoding & RTMP/S streaming.
SMPLR began life as a quick & dirty shell script gathering & sending files through an FFmpeg command. The shell script evolved into a C++/Qt based one-shot creation tool [shown above], with recipe export, recipe tweaking & re-run plus rudimentary batch capabilities. Finally, the fully autonomous creation & live streaming application [shown below] was realized and launched.
Recipe.txt
While music and the live stream are ostensibly the main purpose of SMPLR, in reality, the primary output are the recipe TXT files. These recipe files are the artifacts.
Every song (ergo the entire live stream) can be reproduced by sending the recipe files back thru FFmpeg – as long as the user has access to the original sample library. One month of 24/7 live stream consumes just a couple hundred MB of drive space as TXT and LOG files. A further 11.62 GB is required for source samples, for the duration of the project.
Even though SMPLR's output is ephemeral, everything is deterministic and reproducible. The engine may appear as open source code in the future, but for the time being the algorithm and logic will remain private.
Albums
The continuous live stream is the primary engagement, however, from time to time SMPLR experiments with self contained short format albums.
SMPLR Monotone 1
2026-03-18 | 17 songs
The SMPLR compositional algorithm remains unchanged. The only difference is the sound library. The result is a less chaotic, more harmonious listening experience that – in this instance - evokes mantras & meditative temples.
Monotone 1
ignores the 13,000 audio file sample library used for The Infinite Album
live stream, and relies on just a small handful of closely related source sounds... 3, in fact.
These 3 sounds are batch processed using FFAB against several hundred convolution IR reverb files to create a subtle sonic palette of ~2869 nearly identical samples: Same sound, different spaces.
This exists, then that exists. Emergent. Enjoy!

were uploaded before the live stream was fully functional. The algorithm is exactly the same as the original shell scripts, but the SMPLR C++ engine was still in development. The sound libraries are similar, only less refined. Early iterations, still canon.
